Environmental Quality

BOX CONSTRUCTION. All engineered panel material and plywood Crestwood utilizes meet or exceed CARB compliance. California's Air Resources Board (CARB), a division of the California EPA, is working to enact new regulations to reduce formaldehyde emissions from wood panels and products made from wood used in the state.

The CARB Air Toxic Control Measure will establish the most stringent formaldehyde emission limits on wood products in North America. The measure requires that wood panels and products manufactured from wood panels be certified by a "third party" laboratory approved by the CARB as meeting California's emissions requirements. Panel manufacturers, importers, distributors, fabricators and installers can all be held responsible for assuring that their products comply. The new emissions limits are scheduled to be phased in starting 2009 and fully implemented in 2012.

No added urea formaldehyde options: A breath of fresh thinking comes in the form of PureBondĀ® manufactured by Columbia Forest Products. PureBond panel is an innovation that replaces traditional urea-formaldehyde hardwood plywood construction with a new, environmentally safe soy based adhesive. This eliminates urea-formaldehyde adhesive from plywood panels. With a growing focus from the architectural community on indoor air quality, PureBond panels are also compliant with the U.S. Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEEDĀ®) standards, earning one point for LEED's EQ Credit 4.4 for Low-Emitting Materials: Composite Wood.

FINISH. Crestwood uses a high solids water clear conversion varnish. This produces extremely durable films with exceptional depth of image. This product meets or exceeds the performance requirements that have been established by the KCMA (Kitchen Cabinet Manufacturers Association), ASTM (American Society for Testing and Materials) and AWI (Architectural Woodwork Institute). This product has been formulated with very low levels of HAPs (Hazardous Air Pollutants) and VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds), and is therefore both user and environmentally friendly.
